Sault Ste. Marie, MI — Lake Superior State University’s 31st annual Lake State Golf Classic will have a new format this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Golfers will play at their own pace between Friday, July 17 and Friday, Aug. 28, to help ensure for social distancing and other COVID-19 safeguards. Also in response to the coronavirus pandemic, there will be two divisions: Teams can play at the Wild Bluff Golf Course in Brimley, MI, in the Upper Peninsula or at a course of their own choosing.

“We know how enjoyable and important this fundraising outing is, and we are happy that we were able to come up with a way to allow LSSU supporters to participate and stay safe,” said LSSU Annual Fund and Athletic Development Director Andrew Rubinstein.

As in years past, the classic, a summer mainstay that benefits the LSSU Foundation and Lake Athletics, will be a golf scramble, best ball format, in foursomes. The entry fee for both divisions is $100/person ($400/team). The fee includes golf and cart at Wild Bluff. Those who golf at other courses will be responsible for their own carts. All net proceeds benefit the university initiative of the players’ choice.

Teams must register with the LSSU Foundation and pay the entry fee before playing.

To book tee times at Wild Bluff, contact Matt Phipps at Wild Bluff at (906) 248-5860 or mphipps@4baymills.com. Golfers must register with the LSSU Foundation before contacting Wild Bluff.

Those who play their own course should e-mail player names, phone, email, and scores to foundation@lssu.edu.

During the final two weeks of play, there will be an online auction to support the LSSU Foundation. For more information, visit https://foundation.lssu.edu/lake-state-classic-2020/
