Lake Superior State University offers you several options to earn college credit. For high school students, you should discuss these options with a high school counselor and LSSU’s Admissions Office while you’re in grade 9 or 10 so you can take full advantage of these opportunities. For adults, please visit with the Admissions office if you are interested in opportunities with CLEP or military transfer credit.
Many talented high school students benefit by taking university-level courses while enrolled in high school. LSSU offers a large variety of courses to qualified high school students. If you qualify, most of your tuition is paid by your local school district under Michigan ’s dual enrollment legislation. Learn more about our dual enrollment program.
Students Participating in Dual Enrollment, or Early/Middle College programs are considered First Time in College students for admissions and scholarship purposes. Lake Superior State University uses holistic review and would consider all course work both high school and college in the evaluative process for admission. An SAT or ACT will be required for Admission. Early college students are considered First Time in College with advanced standing for credits earned.
Students participating in Early or Middle College or Dual Enrollment in high school must have official transcripts from the college or university that is awarding the course or credit, sent directly to Lake Superior State University office of admissions. No credit will be granted without an official college transcript issued directly from the college or university. Contact the college’s registrar’s office to have an official transcript sent to Lake Superior State University office of Admissions. Transcripts sent by facsimile or hand delivered are not considered official. All transcripts become the property of Lake Superior State University and are not returnable.
The Advanced Placement Program is a nationally accredited testing program composed of college-level courses and exams for secondary school students. LSSU offers credit to students whose A.P. examination grades are considered acceptable, typically a score of 3 or higher.
LSSU students may take national CLEP exams either at the University’s Testing Services or at a testing center in their local communities. General course credit can be given in the general education areas of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics. Many specific course exams are also available. For a complete list of CLEP exams and LSSU course equivalents, contact the University’s Admissions Office.
