TOP LSSU EMPLOYEES I – Lake Superior State University President Peter Mitchell congratulates Ron Thoerner (left) after his recognition as LSSU’s Educational Support Personnel employee of the year. The citation was presented during the university’s annual Retirement and Service Awards banquet on April 3 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Since 1990, LSSU employees and students have nominated their colleagues for the Employee of the Year Award, which is presented annually to one member of the educational support staff and one member of the administrative/professional staff. A committee of past recipients considers the nominations and chooses the finalists. The award is the equivalent to LSSU’s Distinguished Teaching Award, which is presented annually during LSSU graduation ceremonies. Other nominees were, from left, Ryan Stephens (Norris building attendant), Brenda Cooper (academic assistant, education), Brady Kirkpatrick (cook, food services) and Rich Bumstead (facilities sport utility attendant).
