The LSSU Cannabis Center for Excellence is Northern Michigan’s leading center for mass spectrometry and chemical analysis.

The LSSU Cannabis Center for Excellence is a multiuser core facility for chemical analysis in support of research and education. With state-of-the-art instrumentation, our users can measure elements and molecular compounds down to part per trillion levels.  These capabilities support applications in cannabis research and consumer product safety, biochemistry, forensic science, environmental analysis, and chemical characterization. Our facilities are open to LSSU researchers & undergraduate students, external researchers, and commercial/industrial users.

Note: all cannabis research performed at LSSU utilizes legal hemp (<0.3% THC).  No marijuana research is permitted without prior DEA approval.
