ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD – Galen Rashard “Rick” Duncan, left, poses with Lake Superior State University Alumni Association’s Kenneth Shouldice Achievement Award and Laker Men’s Basketball teammate Donald Carlson. Carlson introduced and presented Duncan with the citation during a special awards banquet on Oct. 13 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The citation highlights significant achievements of alumni who serve as leaders in the region, state and nation. Duncan, a four-year letter winner for Laker basketball from 1990-94, is vice president of professional development for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings. OUTSTANDING YOUNG ALUMNUS – Michael P. O’Toole (left) poses with the Lake Superior State University Alumni Association’s Paul Ripley Young Alumnus Award and former chemistry professor Marshall Werner during a special banquet on Oct. 13 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The citation recognizes alumni who have experienced exceptional professional success early in their careers. O’Toole, who graduated in 2003 with a degree in biology/pre-dental, has an orthodontics practice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., with partners Kent Floreani and Carly Dool. Outside of his practice, O’Toole researches the role of the dental community in the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea and explores interdisciplinary approaches to the seamless delivery of dental care. OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS – David B. Jahn, left, accepts the Lake Superior State University Alumni Association’s Outstanding Alumnus Award from LSSU Foundation Executive Director Thomas Coates during a special banquet on the Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., campus Oct. 13. The citation, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Alumni Association, recognizes recipients for their personal and professional accomplishments along with their involvement with LSSU. Jahn, a 1990 graduate of LSSU’s MBA program, is the president and chief executive officer of Chippewa County War Memorial Hospital, a facility with more than 950 employees and 60 physicians.
