RED TOQUE POETRY – Eric Endress slips out of the cold and into the warmth of LSSU’s Shouldice library gallery for an April 2 reception that kicked off National Poetry Month at Lake Superior State University. The exhibit is a collaborative effort between ENGL 223 (Creative Writing II) and ENGL 302 (Poetry Writing) that took two approaches to poetry. Students in Prof. Julie Brooks Barbour’s poetry workshop wrote original poems, along with narratives describing the creation process. Prof. Mary McMyne’s creative writing class applied a literary form of erasure – also called blackout poetry – that substitutes visual elements for words or sections removed from printed text in a book. The exhibit runs through April 14 in the Kenneth J. Shouldice Library gallery, located just inside the library’s main entrance. Eric Endress, from Livonia, Mich., is finishing a bachelors in literature/ creative writing as well as an associate’s in modern languages/literature (LSSU/John Shibley)
