UP TO KEEP COSTS DOWN – Crews with Johnson Controls, Inc., hoist a 130-ton air conditioning chiller unit onto the roof of Lake Superior State University’s Cisler Center, one of two they installed on Jan. 3. JCI has been swapping units out on LSSU’s Arts Center, Norris Athletic Center, Crawford Hall of Science, and Center for Applied Science and Technology (CASET) since the last week of December. Some of the replaced units were about 30 years old. Upgrades throughout the 41-building campus – such as new roofing, lighting, and upgraded heating, ventilation, and HVAC systems – should be completed by winter 2020. The work is part of a long term $23.6 million infrastructure upgrade that will improve safety, security and sustainability, and even install a more robust wireless IT network across LSSU’s 115-acre campus.
