Crawford Hall Kodiak Bear

KODIAK MOMENT – Lake Superior State University Geographical Information System (GIS) adjunct professor Chuck McCreedy checks out a Kodiak Grizzly bear on March 26, LSSU’s latest addition to the Gil Gleason Natural History Museum in Crawford Hall of Science. The 8 1/2-foot-tall bear, taken on Kodiak Island Alaska in May 1991, was mounted and donated by the grandfather of one of LSSU’s students, both of whom prefer to remain anonymous. Its display case was funded by Biology Professor Emeritus Steve and his wife Kathy Person, the LSSU Fisheries and Wildlife club, and through community donations. The Kodiak bear joins a polar bear mount on permanent loan from the U.S. Government in Crawford Hall’s main lobby, which is typically open weekdays until 8 p.m. (Photo by John Shibley)
