(Left to right) Cecil Pavlat, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Elder; Bill Morrison, Sculpture Artist; Dr. Rodney Hanley, President of Lake Superior State University; Josh Hudson, Bay Mills Indian Community Appellate Judge, seen unveiling the new sculpture in Pleger Commons, which was commissioned with the support of a memorial fund in honor of late LSSU President Thomas Pleger. Dr. Pleger was an archaeologist who respected the local Native American culture and history. He was also an advocate of adding outdoor artwork to our campus. These factors contributed to the decision to commission a copper sculpture built in the image of a Native American spear point.
