Luke Brcic, junior Mechanical Engineering major from Lennon, MI, presented to faculty in the School of Engineering and Technology about his summer 2019 internship at Continental. During his internship, Luke utilized the Continental Air Supply (CAirS) Functional Tester designed and built by a Lake Superior State University Engineering Senior Project Team during the 2018-2019 school year. The CAirS system is a modular, integrated control unit for automotive air suspension systems. The CAirS Functional Tester replicates the vehicle environment reducing the need for prototype vehicles used in development. Dan Goodrich, the industrial contact at Continental, noted that the CAirS Functional Tester has been supporting current and future North American air suspension projects since it was delivered to Continental. In conclusion, Mr. Goodrich noted, referring to the students that designed and built the tester, “Thought, debate, innovation, risk, challenge, collaboration, details, dedication . . . paid off, as they almost always do!” We appreciate the role our industry contacts play in ensuring that our graduates are well-prepared for the work force.
