The Lake Superior State University Board of Trustees recently approved a one rate tuition at Lake State that extends across the globe. The worldwide one rate tuition is effective beginning fall 2018. Previously, the one rate tuition only applied to students residing in North America.
Morrie Walworth, vice president of finance, said that the university has seen an increase in revenue streams from students outside Michigan after establishing the North American one rate in 2015. LSSU was the first university in the United States to set a one rate tuition for students in North America.
The 2018-2019 tuition rates have already been approved by the Board. All students, no matter where they are from, will pay $485 per credit hour or $5,820 per semester for 12-17 credits. International students will see a nearly 45% cost savings on tuition; without the world one rate tuition, international students would be expected to pay $727 per credit hour or $8,424 per semester.
The university plans to use the world one rate tuition to promote key programs including computer science, fisheries and wildlife, engineering, and the newly-approved robotics engineering degree.
Freshmen coming from outside North America are eligible to receive the Laker International Scholarship which has a value of up to $3,000 per year based on a 1200 or higher SAT or 24 or higher ACT.
