Eligibility and Insurance
Students
The Health Care Center does bill and accept most insurance plans for services rendered at the Health Care Center. We do ask that students present an insurance card at the time of service and provide our clinic with the subscriber’s date of birth. (Please note that any service rendered off-campus is the sole responsibility of the student/or parent.)
LSSU has created a student health fund for all students who maintain three or more credit hours. This student health fund covers services for our un-insured students as well as co-pays, deductibles and non-covered services of an insurance company. The student health fund has been created so students do not have an out-of-pocket expense. Well physicals are excluded from this fund, but are offered at a reduced rate to the student. To utilize the student health fund services must be rendered at the Health Care Center.
All students are encouraged to carry health insurance. Plan options include Healthy Michigan Plan, MIChild, Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplace Please contact the Community Health Access Coalition (CHAC) for assistance 906-635-7483 with assistance applying for insurance plans or visit https://www.healthcare.gov for more information .
International students are required to carry health insurance – for more information please visit our registrar’s office website at lssu.edu/registrar.
