Manufacturingengineeringtechnology(MfgET)isamulti-disciplinaryfieldthatintegratesknowledgefromareasofstudysuchasscience,math,computers,mechanicalengineering,electronicsengineering,managementandeconomics.MfgETisaprofessionthatgivesyoutheexpertisetodeveloptools,processes,machinesandequipmenttomakequalityproductsatareasonablecost.Theprofessionalsoinvolvesworkingwithandcoordinationofpeoplefromseveralotherfields.Inadditiontoprovidingastrongbackgroundinthefundamentalsofmanufacturingengineeringtechnology,theprogramplacesanemphasisintheapplicationofcomputersystemstomodernmanufacturing.Thisincludestopicssuchasrobotics,computer-aideddesign(CAD),programmablelogiccontrollers(PLC),andcomputer-aidedmanufacturing(CAM).

TheManufacturingEngineeringTechnologyprogramisafullfour-yearBSdegree.AlthoughitisnotasmathematicallyrigorousastheMechanicalEngineeringprogram,itdoesshareafewcourseswithitandisquiterigorouscomparedtoothermanysimilarlytitledprogramselsewhere.StudentsintheManufacturingEngineeringTechnologyprogramhavetheopportunitytousetheirtechnicalelectivestoobtainaminorinRoboticsTechnology,andgraduateshaveexcellentjobprospects.

  • ThecoreoftheManufacturingEngineeringTechnologycurriculumemphasizespracticalapplicationssuchassolidmodelling(CAD),manufacturing,production,controlviaPLC’s,andbasicrobotictechnology.ThetechnicalelectiveportionofthecurriculumalsoprovidestheopportunityforadditionalstudyinroboticsviatheRoboticsTechnologyminor.
