Lake Superior State University President Peter T. Mitchell and LSSU Board of Trustees Chair Rod Nelson presented State Sen. Wayne Schmidt (R – Traverse City) with a resolution during a May 14 visit to campus for his efforts in supporting necessary campus electrical grid upgrades.
The electrical grid upgrade project is a multi-year, multi-phase project which includes two primary cable replacements and removal of old cable. The total project cost is estimated to be $420,000.
“Senator Schmidt recognized the critical need for infrastructure upgrades at Lake State,” commented Nelson. Schmidt supported the $300,000 state appropriation in the Michigan Senate and helped to get the legislation passed and signed into law.
“Senator Schmidt’s support for this project has allowed the university to upgrade the power lines. This will provide more reliable and secure electrical services to campus for our students, staff, and community,” said Mitchell.
The electrical grid that powers Lake State campus has approached the end of its useful life. Cable replacement and upgrades took place May 7-12. Campus was fully powered by Sunday, May 13.
