Two undergraduates, Steven Davies and Celina Malcolm, recently presented their summer research at the Western Michigan Regional Undergraduate Science Research Conference (WMRUGS) in Grand Rapids, MI. The annual conference gives undergraduates the opportunity to present their own research to professionals and peers from surrounding universities. Over 175 undergraduates from 17 universities and 3 states.
Davies (Senior, Biochemistry major) presented a chemistry poster entitled: “A New One-Pot Multicomponent Synthesis of Diverse 3,4-Dihydroquinazolines: Methodology Development, Reaction Scope Exploration, and Mechanistic Investigation.” His research was under the advisement of Dr. R. Adam Mosey.
Malcolm (Junior, Medical Lab Science major) presented a microbiology poster entitled: “Evaluation of 3,4-Dihydroquinazolines as Inhibitors of MRSA Planktonic and Biofilm Growth.” Her research was also performed with Dr. R. Adam Mosey (Chemistry) and in collaboration with Dr. Martha Hutchens (Biology).
Both students were able to do their research over the summer with the funding of an NIH grant written by Dr. Mosey.
