The Works of Tracy Anderson, an exhibit that features artwork on a variety of different mediums including scratchboard art, encaustic art, oil painting, wildlife, photography, and nature-oriented artwork is on display in Lake Superior State University’s Arts Center gallery through August 30, 2019.  All works are available for purchase. A “Meet the Artist Reception” will be held on Saturday, August 24 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Arts Center Gallery. Refreshments will be served while Anderson will discuss her work and answer questions.

The artist, Tracy Anderson, grew up in the Upper Peninsula and graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Design. She started taking oil painting lessons when she was eleven years old and continued lessons throughout her educational career. While her primary medium is alkyd oils, a fast-drying oil paint, she is always trying new things and experimenting with new mediums.

“I’m self-taught in scratchboard and encaustic art, two widely different mediums,” Anderson says. “I love the high level of detail and realism I can achieve with scratchboard, and I find the looser, free-flowing characteristics of encaustic art allow me to take a break from the meticulous scratchboard art and realistic paintings while still allowing me to create.”

Anderson has a deep love of nature and animals that is evident in her artwork. While her main source of inspiration comes from nature, she is continually inspired by everything that she sees.

“Often, I feel I’m overwhelmed by the amount of inspiration and stimulation that I see on a daily basis and the amount of ideas that form in my mind for paintings and projects,” she says. “I wish, through my use and skill of my chosen medium, I can create art that is pleasing to the eyes, uplifts the emotions, and stirs the soul.”

The Arts Center gallery summer hours are 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; Thursday from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.; and an hour prior to LSSU Arts Center performances. Email acgallery@lssu.edu to inquire about special arrangements to visit the gallery during closed hours.
